A floor is only as good as what is under it. Most flooring problems, like gaps, squeaks, cracked tile and lifting planks, start with a subfloor that was not flat or solid enough.

That is why we look at the subfloor during the visit and include any leveling or repair in the estimate, so you know the real scope up front. Then we lay the floor with careful layout, clean cuts and proper transitions between rooms.

We work room by room or across a whole floor, keep dust and debris under control and leave the space clean when we finish. If you are unsure which material fits a room, we explain the trade-offs between hardwood, vinyl plank, laminate and tile in plain terms, including how each handles moisture, pets and daily wear.

The short answer

What flooring does WS Construction install?

WS Construction and Remodeling installs hardwood, engineered wood, luxury vinyl plank, laminate and ceramic or porcelain tile in homes across Greater Boston. Every job starts with the subfloor: we check for level, soft spots and moisture before laying anything. Estimates are free, there is no visit fee, and our work carries a workmanship warranty.

What's included

  • Subfloor check and prepWe check for level, soft spots and moisture, then fix, level or reinforce the subfloor before any flooring goes down.
  • Hardwood and engineered woodWood floors installed with room to expand and contract through New England seasons.
  • Vinyl plank and laminateDurable, water-resistant options for kitchens, basements and busy rooms, laid tight with clean edges.
  • Ceramic and porcelain tileFloor and wall tile for baths, kitchens and entries, with a planned layout and even grout lines.
  • Removal of old flooringOld carpet, vinyl, tile or wood taken up and hauled away, with the rest of the home protected.
  • Trim and transitionsBaseboards, shoe molding, thresholds and transition strips installed so each room meets the next cleanly.

Floors in older Greater Boston homes

Triple-deckers and homes built between 1890 and 1930 in Chelsea, Malden, Somerville and Worcester often have floors that slope or dip after a century of settling. Laying new flooring over an uneven base shows every flaw. We check for this first and include leveling in the estimate when it is needed.

Freeze-thaw winters and humid summers make wood move. Hardwood needs the right gaps and time to adjust, and damp basements usually call for vinyl plank or tile instead of solid wood. We will tell you honestly which material fits each room.

Frequently asked questions

It depends on the material, the room and the subfloor. As a rough market range, Greater Boston homeowners often pay around $3 to $8 per square foot for vinyl plank or laminate installed, $8 to $15 or more for hardwood, and $10 to $25 or more for tile. Subfloor repair and old flooring removal add to that. Get a free estimate for your exact price.
Basements in New England are often damp, so solid hardwood is usually a poor choice. Luxury vinyl plank and porcelain tile handle moisture much better, and engineered wood can work in some dry basements. We check the conditions during the visit and recommend what will last in your space, not what is most expensive.
Sometimes. Floating vinyl plank or laminate can go over a flat, solid existing floor, which saves time and cost. Tile and hardwood usually need the old floor removed and the subfloor checked. If the old floor is uneven, soft or damaged, it should come out. We will tell you which option fits after seeing it.
A single room often takes one to two days. A full floor of a home can take several days to a week, depending on the material, subfloor prep and how much old flooring must be removed. Tile takes longer than vinyl plank because of setting and grout time. You get a realistic timeline in the estimate.
The rooms need to be clear before installation begins. Tell us during the visit if you need help with heavy pieces, and we will plan for it. We protect the rest of your home, keep the work area organized and clean up at the end of the job so you can move back in quickly.
